Lower Deschutes River Fishing Report 5/1/2024

During the last few days of April, I spent the weekend on the Lower Deschutes from Trout Creek to Harpham Flat fishing and camping. The weather held steady for most of the trip and we only encountered occasional light rain and heavy winds on the final day.

The fishing was hot on the first day and we caught fish on just about every fly we threw out there. The heavy hitters were leeches, stoneflies (no surprise there), eggs, midges, and baetis nymphs. There was spotty dry fly action if you could find the trout among the splashy smolts. Blue-wing olives, March Browns, Mahogany, and black caddis fluttered around once the morning turned to afternoon. We did not see any salmonfly adults but there are people online saying they are finding some isolated bugs in the day stretch. Indicator nymphing and euro both worked well throughout the trip. The trout spey produced some grabs as well.

Book a trip on the Lower Deschutes today to access some amazing water during a prime part of the year with limited pressure and hungry fish.
